perhaps an even easier test would be to compare the King 2341 with the current 19" detachable bell versus the older 22" bell (easily found in lots of high schools)-- bigger difference then the 1" on the 52/56J.
However, I think the contrast being made in the post above involves a lot more than the just the rim of the bell, and would include the total taper of the horn.
Or how 'bout comparing some of the different model mirafones that use the same leadpipe/valves/main slides?
