Actually, I have BOTH here and have used BOTH of them is week with the SJ Symphony. The 186 has a .770 bore, NOT .63 as you have stated. The smallest Mirafones (the 184) have a .705 bore. Anyway, here's my observation of the two instruments. I LOVE Mirafones, always have. The 17 3/4" bell makes this really almost a 5/4 BBb. Good response, pretty large sound, GREAT low notes excellent pitch. The MW18 is almost a 'piggy' shaped horn. Smaller, mnore compact horn, good pitch. The 2&4 low B seems a bit stuffy. The low F ROARS out of the horn. My only complaint about the horn is you CANNOT reach the first valve slide to adjust tuning on the fly. I'd have to have some kind of hooh ou handle mounted on it to reach it. The good news is that the 4th slide is VERY accessible, allowing you to tune 2 & 4 B and low E.
