Nope, you don't get it. Reading a different clef is impossible; because I read by pitch, not by clef position. I can transpose easily, having first learned piano, reading both treble and bass clefs. But if the piano is a half step flat....I will actually play a piece a half step sharp on the piano keys, in order to get the pitches where they need to be to match what is printed on the page. It is just impossible to play the "wrong" notes from what is written. It's like this: suppose you are reading aloud what I have written here, and you must look at each letter but actually say aloud the letter previous to it in the alphabet:
h l m q s v z a. Now try that....and you'll understand what I'm talking about re pitch and printed notes on the clef. It is a huge mental task to translate.
