In my HS (about 40 years ago) the best trumpet player had a partial plate in front. He learned to play without smashing the mouthpiece into his face.

I've had dentures for about 12 years. I don't play tuba as much, but they aren't much of a problem.

I think its best to wait to fit the new dentures after the mouth heals from the removals. So does my dentist. Dentures will need relining in a few years because the gums will change, mostly shrink.

The key to brass playing is to learn to kiss the horn, not push on it. Then the dentures stay in place just fine. Mine fit good enough that I eat raw carrots and apples with no goo. Lots of apples and carrots.

There may be some need to have the dentist clean up the front of the dentures so the insides of the lips aren't abused by the mouthpiece pressure. Typically the dentist applies more importance to the insides of them.

Just kiss the mouthpiece and all works well.
