I play in the Atlantic Wind Symphony at Atlantic Union College in Lancaster, MA. We platform 30 - 50 players. We have a mix of students and community players to get a good instrumentation. Last year we had two tubas (tubae?) -- a Yamaha YBB641 (I think) 4 Rotary Valve BBb, and my Mirafone 183-4U EEb. Not planned, just happened that way. I thought it sounded pretty good, myself and the music director (Earl Raney) was complimentary. Matt and I usually play unison. On divisi, I usually go high on the EEb, and I will usually play the higher cues. The rest of the brass section consists of 8 - 10 trumpets, 1 - 2 horns, 1 - 2 euphs, and 6 - 8 trombones (inc. 1 bass trombone). I do not think this is common, because few amateur players have an EEb.
