How far the mouthpiece goes into the receiver REALLY affects intonation, not to mention other qualities. I was recently getting very frustrated with my F tuba's intonation (not to mention...), but by changing the placement of the mouthpiece in relation to the receiver made the pitch MUCH more workable. Just remember, you can always shave off more material on the mouthpiece; you just can't add it back!!!
