Remember one thing about all Yamaha tubas and this is a big one. All Yamaha tubas are pitched A=443 and not 440. Change your tuner to 443 one time and be amazed at how far in you will have to push your tuning slide.
This is one of the main problems. Now change it back and get on your hands and knees, PRAY its not a hot day and you have a great set up in the beginning to try and hold pitch when you play your concert.
I know a few people who have had longer inner tubes put on their main tuning slide to help make the pitch 440 and not 443.
Some manufacturers are bringing their tubas in at A=440 now.
