In the May 1987 issue of the T.U.B.A.
JOURNAL (Vol. 14, No. 4) is an article by
Doug Yeo that is titled:
Tuba Players Of The Boston Symphony Orchestra,
1913-1987.
On page 18 there are four close-up photos of
Kilton Vinal Smith at various stages of his B.S.O.
career. Mr. Yeo points out that Mr. Smith's tenure
with the B.S.O. was remarkable because he played
everything on the F tuba.
The horns in these pictures are Kruspes and
they clearly have FIVE valves.
