From personal experience I can say that it is doubtful you would be studying with a grad student if you came to I.U. Perantoni has a large studio and when you audition for him he'll give you a straight answer as to whether you'll be in his studio. I can think of only one instance where the grad assistant taught a performance major most of the time and that was for the first semester of the kid's freshman year, then he began studying with Perantoni full time. The grad assistants here mainly teach tuba players with a B.S.O.F or where there main focus is not tuba.
