As far as size of the rim, a few have mentioned that their mouthpiece diameter is about the same. This is probably true for most tuba mouthpieces which today are based on a Helleberg design.

Yes, I am pointing out some inconsistancy here as he definatly said one thing but did another. Perhaps this was the case:

1) What was the context? For example, there is one MP he had, a euphonium MP with a tuba rim. This is an exception.
2) What was the exact question?
3) He changed his mind during his career.
4) Did he say "another words" and go into an explanation (he'd always do that).

Believe me, I'm not trying to open a can of worms here and in anyway disrespect Mr Jacobs. I was there and heard it but was also at his locker at Orchestra Hall. This is probably one we will never know!
