If you're performing it outdoors, keep the elements in mind. About 15 years ago, the Oklahoma Summer Arts Institute Orchestra did 1812. The plan was for a couple of guys outside the doors on either side of the stage (which at the time was laid over the indoor pool!) to shoot off 12-guages into galvanized trashcans. Worked like a charm at dress. But during our performance, one of those famous Oklahoma severe thunderstorms came through and knocked out the power. We managed to continue in the dark for a bit, and the lights came back on. Unfortunately, when it came time for the shots, all we got was the bass drum. It seems that the guys out back were busy chasing their wind-blown trash cans all over the place.
