Ouch! That happened to me playing a piece for solo contest. I think it was "Concertante" or something similarly forgettable. (I'd never heard of Vaughan Williams at the time.) In the middle of the piece, between to strains, my brain locked, and for about 5 seconds I could not remember the next note. My accompanist just stopped and waited. Sure enough, it came to me, and off I went without a hitch for the rest of the tune.
