Opinions? Facts? I don't think there are any "facts" when it comes to which musical equipment does "this" or "that".
My personal "opinion" about chunky mouthpieces is that their chunkiness is a bunch of humbug. Some of the chunky mouthpieces undoubtedly are fine mouthpieces, but I absolutely believe that the success of those mouthpieces has nothing to do with their mass.
Which one is going to vibrate more: a mouthpiece that is 3/16" thick or one that is 7/16" thick? Answer: If you are in Florida and didn't feel the Olympia, Washington earthquake today, you won't feel the difference between two mouthpieces with identical interiors with significantly different amounts of material in their mass.
I revert to my standard comment about chunky mouthpieces: They make my legs fall asleep.
