I saw the BSO perform this summer at Tanglewood. They played Mahler 1, and it was one of the best performances I've ever heard. Their sound (from each section) was great, but their phrasing and musical coherency was even greater. It was a real treat to hear such a superb comprehension of such a profound piece. I can understand criticism of any orchestra, but it doesn't have to include such harsh judgement. I hope you have a chance to hear this group perform at the same caliber as I did.
