I have played both trombone and tuba everyday at school for five years now. First i play trombone in the jazz band for 50 mins., then the tuba in concert band for 50 mins. I am 100% a tuba player, not a trombone, and i hardly ever practice my trombone outside of school. I haven't found that playing the 'bone messes up my chops as long as i counter it everyday with lots of tuba lip excercises, and especially long tones to keep my tuba embrouchure fresh. in fact, playing the 'bone has strengthened my chops and given me practically unlimited endurance on the tuba and the ability to play higher. Of course, i sometimes have trouble when i wail on the 'bone, then go straight to the tuba, but surprisingly my embrouchure adjusts after a couple mins. of playing, with no noticable effects.
