This seems to imply that playing different instruments makes you mediocre on all of them. I tend to think of brass playing (let's be careful not to extrapolate too far here) is the single trade in question. Arnold Jacobs talked about being "a singer in your brain" and that to me is what playing more than one instrument helps with. Besides, it's fun to do more than one thing and anything worth doing is worth having fun while doing.
