I play in a local community band. A college student showed up 2 weeks ago and said he just learned how to play the tuba. It took him 2 hours. Tonight he showed up late to rehearsal and was trying to triple and double tongue along with his annoying rendition of Michael Jacksons "Beat It" bass line. He said, " I bet I am the only Tuba Player who can double tongue." He just laughed and thought it was funny. His main instrument is the Sax.
I am sure glad that I have a sense of humor. All the years that we have busted our butts in the practice room. All of the recitals that some of us have performed. The equipment purchases. The study of literature. The list just goes on.
I really feel that this Mockery of the Tuba Players Brotherhood should be discussed. Playing the tuba in a serious manner requires much more than 2 hours.
