I have to agree with the sentiments re: the 56J. If you are buying new, it's right in the ballpark price-wise. I haven't played a DS piston, but I did do a side-by-side with a 56J and a 188. The 188 was a nice-sounding horn, and I grew up on Miraphones and that sound. The 56J was head and shoulders above it in terms of the depth and the size of the sound. The Conn sounds a lot bigger than it looks. And it was much less work to get a good sound on the Conn.
If there are other considerations as to why you ask about those two models only, disregard the above statements.
