I commissioned a new tuba piece last fall from Donna Shelley and her husband Guy. They are now selling copies on eBay, which is where I found them in the first place.

The piece was written as a tribute to the events of 9/11/2001. Her description is accurate concerning the piece. The main body of the solo is playable by an advanced high school player while the cadenza makes for an advanced college or professional level piece. The range of the solo is from a pedal C to high A above middle C. The cadenza parallels the events of 9/11 very well. It begins tonally and gradually falls apart with a cascading section representing the falling of the World Trade Center buildings. It returns to a sense of normalcy in the ending. My wife and I performed the world premiere in Atchison, KS on January 25, 2002.

While this is not the normal venue for a composer, it seems to work. Donna and Guy have written a really good piece of music. The cost is $20 and seems quite reasonable to me.

Perhaps if a few people purchase it, she will write more music for us.
