I knew I would catch heck for my comment... but since I know absolutely nothing about theory, I think it's pretty neat that I can pick up my valve trombone, use treble clef baritone music and simply pretend I'm playing bass clef and use the same fingerings as I know very well for Eb tuba. Actually, back 40 or so years ago, Eb tuba was a very common instrument for a 10 year old to start with. That way, the director of the grade school band could simply take the trumpet and treble music away, substitute an Eb tuba and bass clef music and he had a ready-made tuba player. It gets real simple if theory does not get in the way.
