I've heard everything from 1920 (from the person who sold it to me) to 1950 (from a tuba prof I know.) It's nowhere near as flat in pitch as an old York Eb that I played, which had to be nearly a half step flat. This one is just at the other end of the spectrum from, say, a Yamaha, which is usually built quite sharp. The other tubist in the band plays a 641 Bb, and he has had to add extra tubing on the leadpipe to bring it down to pitch. So we're quite a pair, intonation-wise.
I'm really trying to avoid cutting it if I can. I've experienced quite a change in pitch with cup depth on other brass instruments, and since the mpc I'm using has a deep cup, I would like to try one with a more medium cup in the hopes that it will raise the pitch enough so that I don't have to cut the tuba. But there is that nasty small shank to contend with.
