Perhaps you're right, but if I were to call them neoprenes, then I'm not sure anyone would know what I'm talking about. I think every tuba/euph. player knows what valve felts are, but might not know that some are made of neoprene. Basically by calling them neoprene valve felts, you can get a clear understanding of the area in which they would be used, instead of having to explain what they are, like I'm doing right now. I wouldn't know what else to call them, but I'm sure some other version would suffice. Unfortunately, I've only seen 2 horns with neoprene valve pads, so calling them felts made the most logical sense to me. I've called several instrument dealers trying to find them, but everyone's out of them, so apparently they're popular. I'll just refer to them as valve pads now.
