About an hour ago, I heard a short piece on NPR about Patrick Sheridan and Sam Pilafian's new CD, Dos Amigos. It's a CD of Latin tuba duets, and the excerpts they played were great. It seems to be just the two of them and a percussionist, but they didn't give out a lot of detail. They both interview very well, and for once, the interviewer treated them and the instrument with great respect. As a matter of fact, the only person who even mentioned "oom-pah" was Sam.
It was a nice and respectful piece of radio journalism, and the interviewer gave them their due as true musical virtuosos. Here's hoping that this is the start of more decent coverage of our instrument.
