Are you sure it's the dreaded red rot and not just a "blush" caused by the factory's careless cleaning before lacquering? RR usually appears first on the leadpipe and slowly progresses. On silverplated instruments, it shows itself as little "bubbles" under the plating.

Keep your horn clean (like Joe said), brush your teeth before playing and stay away from soft drinks when you're playing. A little valve oil down the leadpipe every now and then might help, too.
