Zack's statement is, perhaps, a bit stronger than it needs to be, but he does have a valid point.
For example, two very prominent orchestral tubist in my neck of the woods have independently volunteered to me that they don't like the sound of Miraphone tubas and, in fact, they recommend that students not buy them. Neither of these guys would refuse to accept a student who played such a horn, but imagine spending lesson after lesson, trying to develop a tonal concept the teacher wants from you, but that your type of horn doesn't want to have any part of.
I agree that Miraphones have great intonation and even response, but I need all the help I can get in developing a great sound.
