Original/authorized copies may certainly be in an infinite number of hands, and looked at and played by an infinite number of users.
Photo-copying or hand-copying are illegal, and some works are protected regarding public performance for profit. Even fewer works are protected regarding any public performance whatsoever...The John Williams Tuba Concerto is such a work, as an example.
