This should never happen, but in fact it happens in every field. My Dad taught me an axiom that helps keep it in perspective:
"The boss isn't always right, but he's always the boss."
YOU know what is right. Hold your head high, do your best, and let the conductor make an ass of himself. Based on the fact that you did your best to satisfy him and were respectful, it appears that you are already on this track.
