I would agree. One of the main reasons to attend a conservatory level school is to raise the level of one's student colleagues, thus allowing for rehearsals and performances more similar to those which would be expected and experienced in the professional world.
Here's an incredibly simple example: If one hired the world's best fishing guide, one would not want to hire them to guide around in a swimming pool (no fish). The great teaching needs a nearby and readily available effective medium in which to attempt to apply what one is shown or taught.
As far as this particular thread is concerned though, this whole discussion is moot because the original poster admitted that he would not be going anywhere.
