As a long time follower and user of e-bay, I've seen numerous times when bidding went far over the valve of the item. Not just tubas or other musical instruments, but across the board. I believe it is the competative nature in us that causes us to lose perspective to keep on bidding. My advise to beginners on e-bay is to first know what the item is really worth, and then establish a stopping point. Do not expect to steal it, others know the valve too. A few other techniques have helped me get some reasonable deals on e-bay. Most important is to know when to quit bidding.
