No, people have been comparing them to comparably priced horns. There are a number of tubas available today that play much better than the St. Pete and are significantly better made and yet cost about the same price, or even less than what that store in NC sells them for. Cerveny 681 or 686, VMI 2103, King 2341, Jupiter 582, Weril 680 come to mind.

I also wouldn't recommend a St. Pete for any school setting. A school needs sturdy instruments due to the abuse that school children can dish out, especially to something that they don't own.
