I believe that it has to do with attitude. There has to be a proper mix of aggressiveness toward going all out for a job, and tempering that with an attitude of learning from the experience.

There have been untold numbers of occasions where the winner of an audition was the player who was the best one that day. The winner has also been the one with the matching sound, ease of working in the section, and appearance. As I don't wish to criticize those who were not selected, I simply state that there are conditions that apply to the winner one day that would apply to someone else the next.

I find it easier to believe that all who audition for that job are qualified performers who know the material and have a good sound. The choice may be in the mood of the committee that day.

Sometimes we learn more by loosing the competition than in winning.

Congratulations to the winners. I have equal respect for the ones not selected.
