It depends on the audition. I know that in some military band auditions you are given a tempo for the piece from a metronome the proctor has. I even know of a case where the person auditioning was asked to start over and re-play the piece at the given tempo.

Your question really can be answered by saying play it at tempo AND get the right notes. That is the primary goal anyway. This is exactly why sight reading practice everyday is so important.

One of the biggest things you can do to improve your sight reading is to just do it. Of equal importance to sight reading (all performances, really) is knowing your scales inside and out. Practice your sight reading with the idea that there are no rehearsals, only performances.
