The low part shouldn't really be a big problem for a decent euphoniumist using a large compensating horn. I think the challenge is getting the big, dark sound for the solo. I've played this on two different horns, a Willson 2900 and a Hirsbrunner Exclusive. The Willson was a bit too soft and bright in color, but the Hirsbrunner seems to handle it well, with the right mouthpiece and air. I've never actually seen or played the Alex tenor tuba, but would be interested in seeing a picture of one if anyone has one.
