I went to a combo-concert of Candian Brass and Tucson Symphony on Saturday. The CB put on a great show, and the hall was about full (which is great for the symphony.)
I was sitting back in the nosebleed section, so I inqured after the concert what tuba was being played, since it looked small. I was told it was the Yamaha 3/4 CC (I presume the 621.) The reason I asked, was that it was hard to hear it unless the bell was pointed at the audience. I wonder if it was because it doesn't project all that well, or if it had to do with the fact that they were so far out on the stage that there was no shell to bounce the sound off of. I had no trouble hearing the tuba that was actually in the symphony, but it 1) is a larger instrument (2155, I think,) and 2) was under the shell.
