I have been teaching middle school for over 25 years and I have found that the two most comfortable, inexpensive, in tune, easy to play, durable tubas for this age are the King 1135 (front action valves), King 1140 (upright valves) and the Weril (4 valves). The Weril is my most recent acquisition and that is what I will get next time I buy another one. The valve caps on the King can be ornery at times. These are all 3/4 size and work with all sizes of kids.
