I went back to the horn at a piano, and realized my problem was i was hearing the D in my head nearly 25 cents flat. So my brain was telling my mouth to play low, and thus disaster.
Apparently I play everything flat up there, and the D just happens to be the worst. So I've got to fix my concept of pitch, lean forwar, and blow blow blow. It's coming, finally. *phew*
I don't know much details on cup depth, but i definitely get better results on my conn helleberg than the schilke. (conn has larger diameter, but i am clueless as to depth)
Maybe in 80 years when i get pretty decent, I'll perform this sucker, but right now I'm content to fool around at home and enjoy myself.
