Hey,
My name is Camilo and I am a freshman tuba player at the University of Florida. I am a former student of John Olah at UM. Though I am not a music major or minor, I take the tuba very seriously. I am all out of ideas of what to play for my next chair placment audition. To give you an idea of my skill level, here are the pieces that I have played at my 2 previous placment tests:
-theme and variations on the Blue Bells of Scotland
-the Hindemith Sonata
-the slow introduction of Czardas
My auditioner is the band director, not the tuba instructor. A novelty piece is not out of the question due to my band director's limited knowledge of the tuba repitoire (he plays the trumpet). I don't know why, but that's how they do it. I am also considering trascribing solo's from other instruments (ex. mozart horn concerto #1).
The audition isn't till late August, but I will be switching from BBb tuba to CC this summer, so I need plenty of time to practice. This would have to blow him away because I want to be in wind symphony. I can't stand another year of symphonic band.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
thanks,
Camilo
