Your Fred Yound reference is correct about the frequencies of fundamentals. The standard human "bandwidth of interest" (hearing range) is usually considered to be from 20 hz to 20 khz. That pedal Bb at 29 hz is down around the point where you can almost count the individual soundwaves. The point about odd-numbered overtones is well taken. If you look at the waveforms, the odd overtones can combine with each other to form a nasty-looking (and sounding) square wave. Great for timecode on a digital tape, but lousy to listen to. All physics aside, I totally agree with the bottom line. If it don't sound good (in context), don't play it.
