Is it universally true that a silver horn does not have the same sound as a laquer horn?
If it is, which horn has the richer sound?
My son is fixated on a silver horn. No problem by me, but will I be paying more for his preference, but getting less in tonal quality?
Is there a silver, 4/4, 4 front piston valve, BBflat which is really outstanding? I am willing to pay extra $$$$ for this because I want this tuba to last through my son's college experience. My son is very serious about his tuba playing, and I don't want to shakle him with an instrument which will cool off his love affair with the tuba. He is still young and impressionable.
By the way, I am a french horn player, and opinions along these lines can run into the emotional/irrational because one lives and dies by tone (here is my elitist FH attitude emerging).
