no, electret condensor mics are permenantly polarized and don't require phantom power. Phantom power is a means of sending the required +48DC volts and polarize the diaphragm (ofthe mic)... chances are you sony mic is a dynamic microphone, meaning you will need to power it through your mixer (phantom power).
you maybe losing a little quality by using an adapter, but it's negligable
