Yes, it seemed bigger than the 181 to me, too.
And I agree with everything you said about it. It was one of the instruments against which I compared the older B&S Symphonie that I bought. I preferred the sound of the B&S, but that was a preferenc based on me wanting an F tuba with that classic F tuba sound. The Miraphone was more generic--more like a small CC. Of those I listened to, opinion was divided as to which sounded better. I liked the prototype better than either of the 181's present, even though I thought they were great tubas, too.
