As a small horn, I've for many years used an Eb-tuba, but I felt more "at home" with an F. But of course - you have to consider your use of the tuba. Do have a BBb- or CC- as well. are you playing solo, orchestra, band, quintet...? I your main focus isn't soloplaying, I would consider a tuba like the Willson 3200 F-tuba. It has all the Eb-tuba advantages regarding deep register and flexibility, but also the brighter F-tubasound and ease in the upper register.
But as said in an earlier post, try different horns yourself, but my opinon is that you should buy an instrument without a compensatingsystem. Eb or F with 5 valves... you figure it out.
