When I bought my 56j, it came down to a choice between it and a 2341. They're that close. The 2341 had a low register that fell out of the horn, and was really meaty. The 56j was a little brighter and nimbler. Either horn would be a great one to have, provided you check the fit & finish. But that 2341 was one of the sweetest-sounding BBb's I've ever played. It didn't play like a BBb, it played more like a CC. It wasn't at all woofy, and I think that it could hold itself extremely well in any ensemble. Believe it or not, the 2341 and 56j were so close in sound that the decision came down to which one my parents (who were with me (AT) the time) thought sounded better, and the fact that I didn't want to switch back to BBb after playing CC for several years.
