After years of playing CC tuba I have decided to switch back to BBb. There are many reasons why this is the right decision for me, which I may post some other time, but for now I have a few questions for thoughtful posters.
I played on piston CC's almost exclusively, most recently on a 2155 with Helleberg MP's, (Dillon H3 for bigger rep and a Conn 7B for everything else).
My new horn is a MW 195. The Hellebergs sound fine with, but not quite right. The Dillon sounds too wide and the7B feels too small and stuffs up the low end, (oddly enough). I guess I am looking for a mouthpiece that will help add some brilliance without cutting off the low end.
What have other 195 owners found to be successful matches with their horns? What about other large rotary BBb players?
