A cornet is a trumpet that is squished-up shorter. It weighs the same, but takes up less space...and the beginning of the mouthpipe tube is smaller. (I've sold cornets to other tubenet tuba-ers for their kids.)
I don't keep many cornets around, but I have a few...(PLENTY of REASONABLY-priced student trumpets - new & used)...
...and I DO happen to have (as recommended below by another person) a nice mid-grade (used) shepard's crook GETZEN cornet, as well.
