My take was that
1) we cannot stop the aging process, only do things to help slow it
2) It is important to keep up all of the basic skills/fundamentals of playing
3) Using a tuba stand is not a bad thing...it reduces the amount of contact on the instrument....therefore helping it resonate better. He demonstrated this...and I do believe there was a noticeable difference. Also it allows you to sit properly with good posture etc...
4) intonation.... and knowing the intonation tendancies.... that an in tune A is not always an in tune A depending on the theoretical breakdown of the piece of music and what key you are in. (ie 3rds and 5ths need to be adjusted to fit) (if I got this wrong please correct me...I am trying to remember it all at once)
