I am also learning to construct bass lines. I find it difficult to do what a string bass does: play constantly without taking breaths or swallowing saliva. This probably explains why tubas more often play two beats per measure rather than a four beat walking bass. The tubists I listen to doing walking bass lines frequently (but not always) leave out a note or two, obviously to take a breath, etc.

I would like to see a publication directed to bass lines on the tuba, a rather different instrument from any of the string bass types. Perhaps some BBS members could give us some tips on dealing with the differences between tubas and string basses?
