No argument from me on the drills that help with the problem.

But I must disagree with the notion that thinking about the underlying physics is no solution to the problem. That may be the case for you, but there are many of us who think analytically who cannot train ourselves to do anything without understanding and buying into the underlying physics. Different approaches work for different people. My drills with long tones, and my playing of Rochut two octaves down (if I would do it), are much more effective now that I understand how they connect to the underlying mechanisms.

In a lot of ways, this is the primary difference between teaching adults who have analytical day jobs (a very large percentage of musician hobbyists, by the way) and students who just need to know what to do. Lots of both kinds of people on this forum.
