A friend of mine (who is a trumpet player) gave me a recipe for making a good valve oil. It is 7 parts lamp oil to 1 part 10 weight non-deterent motor oil. I figure it cost me about 25 cents to make up a 2 ounce bottle and I have enough from a $2 or $3 investment to last me for years! It seems to work quite well.
