Tone is in the eye (ear) of the beholder. I have an uncomfortably bright tone on a Helleberg because the shape of the cup is less important to my tone than the lack of resistance. I get a darker tone on a cupped mouthpiece because of the increased resistance. Most people do the opposite, but you can't assume which will be the deciding factor in your case; you have to try the mouthpiece.

Helleberg refers to a style of mouthpiece making where the cup is a funnel shape rather than Gieb or bowl-shaped. Several makers have adapted the name "Helleberg" (Conn, Dillon, and Schilke, for example), but Perrantucci, Rudy Meinl, and many others make some funnel-cup mouthpieces without using the H word in the name. Some of these other companies make the same cup style with a much more rounded rim that's easier on the lip.
